Roger Buckley

Dr. Roger Buckley is the Chief of Urology at North York General Hospital.  He is also the vice president of the International Bladder Cancer Group(IBCG) and serves as a Medical Advisor to Prostate Cancer Support Toronto(PCS Toronto).

 

Roger Buckley attended the University of Toronto where he earned his Doctor of Medicine in 1980.  He completed internship and urology residency also at the University of Toronto.  He has been on staff at North York General Hospital since 1985 and Chief of Urology since 2002.  He has been a member and chaired many committees during this time.  He was president of the Medical Staff Association and on the Board of Governors of the hospital from 1998–2000.  He helped conceptualize and open the Gale and Graham Wright Prostate Center at North York as a joint partnership with Sunnybrook Hospital in 2007.  The Wright Prostate Center has promoted multidisciplinary approaches to the management of prostate cancer and has developed the successful use of transperineal prostate biopsy techniques under local anesthetic.

 

Roger Buckley has been a keen promoter of community urology activities in Toronto and beyond.  His research interests include prostate and urothelial cancer.  He has been a co-author on many manuscripts produced by the IBCG.  The development of the Urology Acute Care Service has been successfully implemented at NYGH.  He is a proud father of 3 young men and maintains a keen interest in hockey and cycling.
