Dr. Copp is an associate professor of pediatric urology at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) and has been on faculty at UCSF since 2009. She graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara with a Bachelor of Science in biological sciences and attended medical school at Penn State University College of Medicine. She completed her urology residency at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. This was followed by a fellowship in pediatric urology at Stanford University, where she concurrently earned a master’s degree in epidemiology. She is the UCSF pediatric urology fellowship director. She is the principal pediatric urologist for the multidisciplinary UCSF Spina Bifida Clinic. She is the co-director of the UCSF Transitional Urology Program, a joint effort between pediatric and adult urology to understand and care for young adults with congenital urologic conditions that will require long-term urologic care. Her research interests include understanding the results of healthcare practice and intervention, specifically among patients with UTI, and examining and improving the clinical and quality of life outcomes of patients with urologic congenitalism. She also co-leads a multi-institutional collaboration investigating the developing urinary microbiome in children with the University of Iowa and Loyola University.
Dr. Copp is an active member of the pediatric urology community. She has served as a member of the scientific review committee and the grant selection committee for the Society for Pediatric Urology since 2014. She was the president in 2019 and the secretary/treasurer from 2015-2018 for the Society for Fetal Urology executive committee. She served as the program chair for the Societies for Pediatric Urology annual spring meeting in 2016 and the fall meeting in 2019. She is a member of the pediatric urology editorial committee for the Journal of Urology. She initiated the Pediatric Urology Fellowship Lectures Online (PedsUroFLO) series, which is delivered by pediatric urology faculty from across the United States and abroad. She was appointed to the vesicoureteral reflux clinical guidelines updated literature review panel by the American Urological Association in 2020. She is a working member of the Societies for Pediatric Urology UTI task force that is currently performing a systematic review to evaluate variations in the definitions of UTI in the pediatric population. In addition, Dr. Copp has devoted time to educating patients and families about pediatric urologic conditions as a member of the Urology Care Foundation’s Public Education Council and Pediatric Health Committee.
